Here at The Cheap Place, we have all sorts of embroidered patches perfect for bikers, patriots, and anyone else who likes to adorn their clothing with patches. Some of our pieces are symbolic. Others are funny. Still others serve as a sobering reminder of the realities of life.
Such is the case with the You Don't Have to Trust Your Government patch. This is a 4 x 1.5-inch rectangular patch with white block lettering and a black background. The full text of the patch says: "You don't have to trust your government to be a good American. Just believe in your country." Wow. Just wow.
Patriotism is an interesting thing. Love of country can manifest itself in lots of different ways. But if you believe the message on this particular patch, you probably don't believe that blind trust in government equals love of country. You are probably of the mindset that government does things from time to time, things that call into question its trustworthiness.
There are plenty of examples throughout American history, from the Salem Witch Trials to McCarthyism and Nixon to Watergate. The thing is that government is made up of people and people are imperfect. So deciding to not blindly trust government at every turn seems to be an exercise in common sense, if nothing else.
Getting heavy into politics isn't one of our goals. We just want to sell biker patches that appeal to our customers, and we think this one appeals to a lot of you. If you believe that being a good American doesn't mean having to always trust the government, this patch deserves of place on your jeans, jacket, or hat. Get one for yourself and a few extras to give to your friends.
